“With hybrid working set to become a permanent feature of our lives, it’s time to future-proof your space” - Michelle Ogundehin (1)

With many of us still working from home, the space from where we work has become increasingly important. This unique space needs to be comfortable and organised for a more efficient and productive way of homeworking. It also needs to be a cosy homely space that you can look to use with family when you aren’t at the laptop.

Spring is the perfect time to start thinking about different ways of refreshing your home office and how to incorporate these themes of new beginnings and wellness.

Over the past few weeks, our Social Media feeds have been full of fantastic images from customers sharing how they have used space, colour and our maps to revamp their working environments.

Bring the Outdoors In

With new life springing into action in gardens and in window boxes across the nation, gather a sense of the great outdoors from your desk. Beautiful seasonal flowers such as daffodils and tulips can inject a quick burst of colour into your home. Not forgetting the faithful house plant which with experimenting with different heights and foliage can bring a feeling of calm and wellbeing. In fact, studies have shown that having indoor plants “improve concentration and productivity (by up to 15 percent), reduce stress levels and boost your mood”. (2) Making them a welcome addition to your home.

Light up the room

With the glorious longer evenings with more natural light flooding into your home, have a think about the alternative ways of lighting your home office. Although it may seem obvious, natural light is the best way to highlight your desk or where you are working. Simply by moving your workstation closer to a window can help to ‘increase productivity, health and overall wellbeing”. (3)

To create a cosy feel to the space, choose a warmer yellow bulb. To give a sense of space with the added illusion of more natural light, opt for whiter shades of light bulb. Don’t forget to mix and match the colour and texture of the lightshade with the decor of the space.

Out with the old…

You might like to use this time to get more organised and have a bit of a declutter. A cluttered desk can contribute to hindering your focus and raising your stress levels. Choose to mix-up your newly decluttered working space or home office with an injection of colour and texture. Consider a lick of paint or choose new art to adorn your walls, of course; our wall maps are an ideal addition to make your world a more beautiful place to live - impress your work colleagues on those all important work zoom calls! Finally, look to refresh any textiles, cushions and soft furnishings to keep your space looking vibrant and smart.

How will you embrace the season of Spring whilst still working from home? We would love to hear from you and have loved seeing all of your incredible images of your home office set-ups. Don’t forget to continue to tag us on our social channels with your #deskie and we will be sure to share.

Here’s to a Happy Springtime!
