With the London 2012 Olympic park a stone’s throw from our studio, the excuse to commemorate this global event with a new map was too good to resist.[read more...]
Celebrating the Olympic journey from the first modern games in Athens in 1896, we’ve highlighted every host city from the last century, including Brazil in 2016. Along the map’s border are delightful graphic illustrations of the 36 sports that were contested during the 2012 Olympic games.
We've used the popular Robinson projection to show a classic view of the shape of countries and continents, while providing an accurate reference point for looking up the more far-flung competing nations.
The colours of the Olympic rings have been graded through countries and continents to represent the sense of unity which arises from global participation in this event.
Whether or not you're
aiming for Olympic glory in 2016, this glorious commemorative map will
be a great inspiration to young and old. This is one piece of
memorabilia that will be treasured even though the excitement of hosting the games is over.
We print our maps on to the highest quality FSC approved silk-coated paper using the lithographic printing process. (This works like a mechanised version of traditional screen printing.) A plate is made for each colour and then laid down individually, creating a stunning print with maximum definition and impact. A sealer is applied to protect the inks and gloss UV varnish used to add contrast and highlight boundaries.
