Change your perspective: Change the world.
We decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Future Mapping Company with an alternative angle on our precious planet.
The Pierce Quincuncial projection is one we have admired for years and now we are proud to bring it to you in our signature colour ways and vivid shimmering inks. We have created two colourways, our traditional vibrant patchwork or gently graded shades of greens to coral pink for a subtler attitude.
This bold interpretation of our globe looks modern, but was invented in 1879 and is even reminiscent of ancient maps which all had a different central focus. It has never been a better time to challenge our viewpoint, with Global issues demanding attention.
The detail on this map is extraordinary. Prepare to obsess over the mountains of Antarctica and learn the names of the minor Islands surrounding Fiji and Vanuatu. Take a jet's-eye view of the globe without the carbon footprint and familiarise yourself with those parts of the world that so often get forgotten. This world map is our antidote to the bare and uninspiring maps of the geography classroom; a map for everyone with a global outlook and an adventurous mind.
We print our maps on to the highest quality FSC approved silk-coated paper using the lithographic printing process. (This works like a mechanised version of traditional screen printing.) A plate is made for each colour and then laid down individually, creating a stunning print with maximum definition and impact. A sealer is applied to protect the inks and gloss UV varnish used to add contrast and highlight boundaries.
