5 Ways To Hang Your New Map

There are many ways to hang a picture, and it doesn’t always have to involve a frame.

Whether you’re decorating a new home or just having a shift-around, deciding how to display your art is just as important as choosing it in the first place. We’ve listed our favourite ways to hang our wall maps below, but before you start, take a minute to properly prepare your map. Pull it out of the tube and lay it on a clean, flat surface. Gently roll it in the opposite direction it was packed in to take out some of its natural curvature. A couple of rolls should do it, but please be careful! And for the love of God, do not go anywhere near it with an iron (you'd be surprised how many of our customers have done this).

1. FRAMES

There’s no doubt that a framed map is the most secure option of the lot. No tatty corners, ripped edges or yellowing sides with a frame. The map is mounted on a sturdy backing board, which keeps it extra flat; making it easy to consult, write on, or pin to. We frame each map without glass so as not to detract from the quality of the lithographic print.

2. HANGING RAILS

If a framed map is too much of a commitment, hanging rails are a stylish alternative at an affordable price. Handmade from oak just outside London, they contain little magnets that trap the map between them and hold it tight. The top rail can be drilled into the wall, while the bottom one weighs the map down so that it hangs straight.

3. Hanging Strips

Our magnetic maps are compatible with all kinds of framing options, but they also come with a pair of hanging strips that attach the back of the map to the wall with a mild adhesive. Powerful and hidden from view!

4. Fold Over Clips

For a more DIY effect, raid the stationery drawer and see if you can find any old clips to attach to the top of the map. Depending on the size and weight of your map, you might need a few to ensure it doesn’t fall. You can either hang the clips off nails or use some blue-tac or command strips to keep them in place.

5. Wallpaper

Don’t want to drill holes in the wall but want to make a big impact? Go big and get any of our maps made into wallpaper. We can scale the design to fit your exact dimensions, whether you’re after a mural or some feature backing for a shelving unit. We print onto a high quality paper in traditional wallpaper rolls that is wipe-able and scuff-resistant.
